Abstract
Live line maintenance has been performed with great success by Eskom Transmission (South Africa) over the last 20 years. An aerial live line maintenance capability was established 10 years ago. Techniques, tools and procedures have been developed to maintain the South African transmission network, which is unique in many ways, to a level that meets the expectations of customers as far as quality, availability and reliability of supply is concerned. Challenges have been met with innovative tool, transportation and technique design and development.
