Abstract
The Brazilian Telecommunications Society (SBrT - Sociedade Brasileira de Telecomunicacoes) was founded in 1983 and it is the first sister-society of the IEEE Communications Society (IEEE Comsoc). Since 1983, the SBrT has annually promoted the most important national conference on telecommunications and the four-annual International Telecommunications Symposium (ITS). Recently, the SBrT has contributed in the specification of the Brazilian Digital Television System (SBTVD). This paper presents some interesting points of the history of SBrT, its conferences and its contributions for the evolution of communications in Brazil.
