Abstract
In this paper, a 2×2 planar array antenna employing circular microstrip patches capable of simultaneous frequency tunability and polarization reconfiguration is investigated. Using varactors diodes, the antenna frequency can be tuned between 1.57 GHz and 1.18 GHz (29% tunability), which covers the full L-band communication. By suitably exciting the two feed ports for each array element, the polarization reconfigurations of horizontal linear, vertical linear, left hand circular polarization (LHCP) and right hand circular polarization (RHCP) can be achieved.
