Abstract :
This work presents a novel Sliding Mode rotor flux and torque control strategy for Induction Motors using an adaptive switching table. Its sector borders are updated online depending on system states and mechanical operating point data. The proposed control strategy thereby maintains the correct voltage vector assignment throughout all four quadrants of operation. This solution guarantees low current distortion while it avoids unnecessary switching transients and enables a minimization of semiconductor losses. It therefore combines all merits of rotor-flux oriented control with the fastest possible torque response and minimum switching losses. The performance of the proposed control strategy is verified by simulation. Experimental results from a 32-bit microcontroller implementation on a 44 kW Induction Motor drive test bench are shown.
