Abstract
Modulation is an imperative part of the communication world. On-Off Keying modulation is the simplest form of modulation which offers many advantages such as reduced power dissipation and lower bandwidth when compared with other modulation schemes. Switch design forms the most critical part in an OOK modulator. Switches for 1 GHz On-Off Keying modulator have been designed in Cadence Virtuoso in 180nm technology. Five different switches for OOK modulation have been discussed, simulated and compared. These are also compared with the reference switch by keeping all the dimensions and parameters same. Three of these switches have been designed by making alterations in the reference switch. A wide range of options are, thus, made available for selecting the switching section of OOK modulator. The designed switches have lesser delay, better waveforms with minimal glitches, reduced area requirement and offer better on-voltage swing. These switches are also analyzed for their different application areas.
