Abstract :
A technique to construct a low-loss printed band-pass filter was demonstrated by using a new type of transmission line at 32 GHz. This transmission line, termed the higher mode strip line, has the same structure as a tri-plate strip transmission line, but the operating mode is the first higher order mode. The higher mode strip line has good advantage of high unloaded Q factor, measured to be 1500. With this in mind, a 3-pole, 0.1-dB Chebyshev ripple band-pass filter with a 2% relative bandwidth was designed and fabricated at 32 GHz. The insertion loss was found to be 0.7 dB, and thus a low-loss printed band-pass filter was successfully developed.
