Abstract
We report the development of a compact (22 cm×14.5 cm) DFB fiber laser module designed for 2.5 Gb/sec WDM networks. In particular, our DFB fiber cavity is of a novel design that offers asymmetric power outputs (with a ratio as high as 1:0.01 mW) from its two ends. This enables us to utilize the optical power from the fiber laser efficiently by feeding the output from the low power end to a electronic feedback loop for noise-reduction
