Abstract
Some of the benefits of integrating metamaterial structures into slotted waveguide antennas are addressed in this paper. The metamaterials developed for this application are based on the split-ring resonator design. These metamaterial structures were modeled in a vertical orientation located on top of the slots of the antenna. The enhancement of antenna performance with the addition of metamaterial structures is evident in the data resulting in 38% increase in directivity and gain and giving rise to 17% narrower beamwidth of the slotted waveguide antenna. The next phase of the project is to manufacture the metamaterial slotted waveguide antenna and validate the simulation results.
