  • Abstract
Accurate and reliable instrumentation is obviously necessary for the cost effective and efficient operation and management of modern electromechanical power plant. Machine parameters such as current, speed and torque are routinely monitored via dedicated transducers and provide the basis for routine plant operational control and maintenance strategies. The work reported in this paper reflects the opinion that machine and plant monitoring should develop as a holistic process whereby a variety of machine parameters and techniques are used not only to monitor day to day operational requirements but also to provide information and diagnoses on the long term health of plant
