Abstract
In this communication, Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) is integrated into the near-field of a patch antenna at the GPS L1 frequency band (1.575 GHz). Axial ratio of better than 2dB is achieved at the angles up to 80 degrees from the normal direction of the antenna ground plane in all of the azimuthal planes. The overall width of the antenna is about 0.75λ,where λ is the free space wavelength.
