Abstract
Modulation and coding are subjects closely related to reception error rate, spectral efficiency and system capacity. For a given received SINR, selecting a higher modulation and coding rate will increase spectrum efficiency, but, at the same time, it will also be associated with higher reception error rate. Conversely, over conservative selection of modulation and coding rate will result in low spectral efficiency, hence, lower system capacity. Since OFDMA has been introduced for next generation cellular networks, in this paper, we focus on analyzing the effect of modulation and coding scheme (MCS) in OFDMA network. We propose analytical models, using Markov Chain, for both worst and average co-channel interference cases. Our proposed analytical models for both cases are verified by simulation. Comparing both analytical models, we highlight the pessimism of worst co-channel interference case analysis. We further show that the minimum bit rate requirement as Quality of Service has an influence on the performances of the implemented MCS.
