Abstract :
A wireless loss detection technique is proposed that allows the standard transmission control protocol (TCP) to distinguish wireless packet losses from congestion related packet losses. A minimal change to the standard TCP congestion control mechanism is required to accommodate this effect. An enhancement proxy, called wireless loss detector (WLD), introduced at layer 2 in the base station enables the system to detect the wireless packet losses. OPNET is used as the simulation tool for this study and simulation results are presented and discussed. Performance of the proposed scheme is compared with that of a standard WLAN and a WLAN with the Snoop enhancing proxy. The results show that introducing the WLD proxy significantly improves the TCP performance
