Abstract :
DNA conformational change and breakage induced by Cr(VI) and curcumin in the present of H2O2 were characterized by the atomic force microscopy. Incubation of DNA with curcumin and Cr(VI) in the presence of H2O2 caused DNA double-strand breaks significantly. Cr(VI) and H2O2 also breaked mildly DNA double-strands. On the basis of these results, we think hydroxyl radicals and reactive oxygen species can play a principal role in this DNA damage system.
