Abstract :
The increasing demand for deploying new services to network calls for a flexible and extensible router software architecture. To overcome the shortcoming of adding service functionalities in traditional routers, this paper analyzed router software architecture designing principles which should be followed and proposed a novel router software architecture supporting reconfiguration. Then this paper analyzed a hierarchical model of the router software architecture and specific functional designs of each layer, finally proposed a router reconfiguration mechanism and its implementation scheme.
