Abstract :
Summary form only given. Erbium-doped fibers make it possible to develop compact, all-fiber sources of femtosecond pulses in the 1.5 μm wavelength regime. In this paper we describe the operation of fully self-starting, passively modelocked, fiber ring lasers and discuss criteria for their design. Pulses with durations of 77 fs, and energies of 90 pJ and have been generated at a repetition rate of 45 MHz
