Abstract :
In this paper we describe the microbend induced loss behaviour and show specific results for several single-mode fibers. Researchers have used complex mathematical developments to describe microbending loss in single mode fibers. We describe a simplified theoretical development to allow prediction of wavelength dependent loss behaviour of single-mode fibers. Single mode fibers subjected to microbending result in narrow bands of attenuation at specific optical wavelengths. This phenomenon is due to coupling of the guided mode power to cladding modes
