  • Abstract
In the early years the region 10 Consumer Electronics Society leaders struggled to keep this conference alive. On a few occasions the ISCE came very close to not being held. The first such occasion came in the late 90??s with the Asian economic crisis. Organizations were tightening their belts and not sending delegates. Fortunately the ISCE was able to link up with the Malaysian International Conference on Communications. Each of the conferences was not a viable event on its own, but combined they were a success, and each of the two conferences managed to maintain their identity. The annual continuity of ISCE was important for its survival. SARS was another threat to the symposium in 2003. The Singapore committee was the host. After consultation with the international advisors, it was agreed that the symposium should continue, but not in Singapore. Faced with this challenge the Singapore committee did something that probably has never been done with a conference any where in the world before. With only a few months to go, they changed the venue from Singapore to Sydney, Australia.
