Abstract
Dedicated Short Range Communications is a wireless protocol that will be used for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications and requires an omni-directional radiation pattern at the horizon. This paper investigates the radiation pattern at the horizon of a raised monopole antenna on a printed circuit board with 1 director, 2 directors and 3 directors. The intent of this research was to create an omni-directional pattern at the horizon albeit with increased gain towards the front and rear of the vehicle to extend the range of communication for vehicle-to-vehicle communication situation as this link offers critical safety applications.
