Abstract :
The paper reviews the service-performance properties of bolted, compression and fired wedge-connectors used in electrical distribution systems. The superior performance of fired wedge-connectors is pointed out. The results of a preliminary analysis of energy savings show that the cost of energy loss incurred over a time interval of 20 years due to the degradation of bolted and compression connectors may exceed the cost of energy loss in fired wedge-connectors by several hundreds of dollars (US$) per connector.
