  • Abstract
This paper presents a new image encryption/decryption system. Its encryption method is based on replacement of the pixel values. The pixel values are replaced using a progressive cellular automata (CA) substitution. The proposed image encryption method satisfies the properties of confusion and diffusion due to the superior characteristics of CA substitution. The salient features of the proposed image encryption method are loss-less, symmetric private key encryption, a very large number of secret keys, and key-dependent pixel value replacement. Simulation results on some color and gray-level images clearly demonstrate the high performance of the proposed image encryption/decryption system
