Abstract
The role of leaky waves in explaining the operation of Fabry-Pérot resonant cavity antennas is discussed. Leaky-wave theory allows for the design of such structure to achieve the optimum beam at broadside. Simple formulas for the relevant properties of the antennas such as the beamwidth and bandwidth are also given.
