Abstract :
In this paper, we describe SOTIS, a speech-operated on-board traveler information system that allows users to find their position in cities and to ask for information about places of interest; SOTIS can guide users to the places they want. The user can communicate with SOTIS either by means of speech input or via a touch screen. SOTIS automatically decides whether to respond through the integrated speech synthesis or display messages. SOTIS is currently available for the city of Changchun. It was designed to run on embedded computers, e.g. the x 86 families, and is available in Windows XP embedded.
