Abstract :
Our studies of Ne-like X-ray lasers have focused on detailed measurements of the yttrium X-ray laser. This system is ideal for multilayer mirror applications because the spectrum is dominated by the short wavelength J=2-1 transition which operates at 154.98 Å. At this wavelength multilayer mirrors with peak normal incidence reflectivities of 60 % can be produced. The high gain of this transition has allowed us to achieve saturated output with peak powers of 30 MW from a 3.8 cm long yttrium target irradiated by a 500 ps square 0.53 μm optical laser pulse
