Abstract :
The paper presents a survey and analysis of preflashover processes at the solid-vacuum interface (including field emission) from a triple point at a cathode and surface charge build-up along the total length of a dielectric (and especially immediately near the emission source) due to secondary electron emission resulting in field intensification near the triple point. The possibility of large intensification of the electric field near a triple point and its relation to the surface flashover are also discussed
