Abstract
Energy saved is energy produced and innovative methods and practices for the efficient use of energy are on the grow. Various options for effective utilization of available electrical energy for the world, especially the industrial scenario is of great importance in a developing nation like India. Industrial sector which the highest consumer of electric power in the country has to work at conditions pertaining to optimized consumption, including efficient implementation of modern concepts such as cogeneration and power wheeling. A case study of a major public sector concern in Kerala has been presented with emphasis on power wheeling. Moreover cogeneration, which is combined heat and power generation, is brought under the prospects of Availability Based Tariff (ABT) which encourages grid discipline as well as export of power to the grid. The problem was simulated using GAOT toolbox in MATLAB and the proposed scheme of bringing captive generation scenario under ABT.
