Abstract :
In this paper, we study how the organization of personal area network devices into a system of systems greatly simplifies the leader election problem. The leader election protocol is the foundation protocol upon which many other important network protocols are based. We propose a three tier system of systems that starts with the cognitive radio system at tier one, and ends with the new architecture for personal area networks at tier three. Based on the system of systems approach we introduce new concepts and terminology and implement, compare and contrast a few variants on the “extrema-finding” method used for leader election.
