Abstract :
This paper is discussing application of automatic generation control to wind power farms. In the new energy market solution, producers are required to keep their balance within the market interval - typically 24 one hour intervals over the day. Keeping the balance simply mean that generation must meet contract volumes and given market interchanges for each hour. Deviations are paid for and may represent a large expense. Proper control schemes is therefore developed to manage the imbalance. Wind power represents a variable energy source. Hence unpredictable wind variations may contribute to the imbalance, and should therefore be included in the control schemes. This paper is discussing the issues related to this kind of control, and presents a methodology for implementing it.
