Abstract
Every day, new companies emerge. They have some kind of magic which bestows success on them. Failure, stagnation or growth are their inevitable destinies in proportion to the strength of the magic. As companies grow and merge, management and employees alike desperately hope that the magic will transfer as they take on new form. In most cases however, this magic, this elemental competitiveness dims and eventually disappears leaving only the brute force of headcount and capital in its wake. The author discusses why this is so. He discusses the nature of management and leadership together with the information requirements of managers and leaders. He goes on to discuss the past, present and future of business systems and the exploitation of information technology by managers
