Abstract :
Wide-band 3 dB couplers with two different microstrip quasi-symmetric tightly coupled-line sections have been designed, fabricated and measured. The calculated frequency-dependent characteristics of these couplers are compared with measured responses. It is shown that a multi-section coupler with asymmetric coupled lines as the centre section can compose an optimum 90° coupler, if correcting lengths of transmission line are added. A coplanar-type MMIC version of this wide-band 3 dB coupler is proposed
