Abstract :
Exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) is not a new phenomenon. However, with the ever increasing demand for electricity, appliances, telecommunication and broadcasting media, human exposure to these EMF fields is steadily rising. This paper describes the dangerous effects of the extremely low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic fields and suggests a portable hand held device to measure their intensity. By doing so, the user can gauge the sensitive areas around his/her home or workplace and avoid excessive exposure to these unavoidable fields. By incorporating a visual interface using LEDs, the user will be able to understand the increasing intensity of the fields as he/she moves towards the source. This is our effort to spread awareness about ELF-EMF radiation and help people become proactive towards this cause.
