Abstract :
The chromosome segmentation is one of the most important steps in automated chromosome analysis systems because its result affects the performance of these systems. Mathematical morphology is a widely used segmentation method. An algorithm based on mathematical morphology was presented in this paper. First, the canny edge detection operator was used to calculate the grads of the image. Then, a series of mathematical morphological operations were used to segment the chromosomes in the image. The experiment proved that this algorithm can segment the chromosome images successfully.
