Abstract :
There are more and more studies in focus on mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). Because of the advantage of it can be constructed only by mobile hosts which work like routers. Even if no infrastructure, communication still can be proceeded. It is applicable in the urgent rescue, military battlefield and other situations that must temporarily construct the network. In MANET, mobile hosts (MHs) will store the replicas of the data items which just accessed. When access a certain data item that had been accessed, MHs can access the replica of the data item from their own memory space, without accessing it again from the original MH who have the data item. When other MHs access the data item, it can access from the MHs who has the replica of the data item and is nearer than the original owner of the data item. Thus, the load of relaying data items in the network will be reduced, and the performance of the network will be improved. However, the memory space and energy of MHs are limited. How to use the limited memory space efficiently and lengthen the live time of MHs is a very important issue. We store the replicas in MHs with no duplicates within groups and consider the remaining energy of MHs to allocate the replicas to make the live time of the network lengthening in this paper. Finally, the simulation results show that the replica allocation method considering the different remaining energy between each mobile host can obtain longer network life time compared to the method without considering remaining energy.
