Abstract :
This paper proposes an electrodynamics model of an open pin-diode placed in a finline. An accurate hybrid-mode analysis is presented to determine the normalized propagation constants of a unilateral finline and finline with metal-dielectric insertion. This insertion simulates the behavior of open diode in finline. The algorithms of calculation of the modal-S-matrix on the step and metal-dielectric insertion discontinuities are developed. Based on data describing losses in open diode, the matching circuits for microwave attenuator were designed based on the finline alternating quarter-wave-length sections
