Abstract
A novel millimeter-wave generation technique for mm-ROF system is proposed in this paper. The light-wave from single-mode laser is split into two optical carriers. One carrier is phase modulated by 5-GHz microwave signal and then combined with the other carrier. The mixed optical signal after transmission over 15-km-long fiber is photodetected to generate electrical signal consisting of harmonics of 5-GHz microwave signal. The desired 40 GHz millimeter-wave signal can be obtained by bandpass filtering the harmonics. Data transmission on downlink system with the proposed generation method is demonstrated.
