Abstract
A resistive gas sensor under the influence of a target gas is considered as a system. The input to this system is a time-varying voltage applied to the sensor´s heating element, which modulates the operating temperature of the sensor. The output of the system is the transient response of the sensor to a contaminating gas present. The properties of the system change with respect to the nature and concentration of the contaminant. The system identification technique is employed for the determination of the major parameters of this sensing system for the first time. An unknown target gas was identified based on the features extracted from the related set of system parameters.
