Abstract
Management of such a large company as Gasprom is a complex task requiring permanent broadening of the sphere of application and updating of the information technologies. Having this in mind, since the 1990s Gasprom´s top managers have been working towards modernization and updating of its technological communication network (TCN) on a modern technical basis. Gasprom communications network, one of the biggest in Russia, includes 78,000 km of inter-city wire and radio links, 540 communications centers, millions of kilometers of channels and paths, and more than 7000 skilled communication specialists. One of the most important aspects of network modernization (side by side with improvement of wire and radio links) is the development of the Yamal satellite communications and broadcast system (SCBS) which nowadays satisfies not only production requirements but also the social needs of the inhabitants and people working in gas areas
