Abstract :
A number of factors limit the electron efficiency of free-electron maser (FEM) orotrons. Some of these issues have been resolved by a new design of a multibeam FEM orbotron (Open Resonator, Binary comb, O-Type, electRON). Results of investigating FEM orbotrons with spatially developed (multiple-beam) electron streams are presented. A possibility is demonstrated of improving the power characteristics of millimeter-wave multiple-beam tubes while reducing their overall dimensions and weight.
