Abstract :
In the course of developing pghpf, the PGI High Performance Fortran compiler, several CM Fortran applications have been converted to HPF and run on multiple platforms as part of customer benchmarking exercises. The existing base of CM Fortran codes, along with MP Fortran codes developed for the MasPar machines, represent perhaps the largest body of existing data parallel applications. With production applications available in such areas as oil reservoir simulation, post-stack migration, fluid flow, and particle simulation, this base represents a key starting point for the development of corresponding production HPF applications. This paper surveys aspects of these code porting exercises from the perspective of both the compiler implementor and the application programmer
