Abstract :
Phthalates are a family of manufactured chemicals that are widely used in our daily life. Many researches have indicated that it has extensive toxicities. Di-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) can be released small amounts into indoor air from plastic materials, coatings, and flooring. This study is undertaken to investigate the direct effect of DEHP on gold Crucian carp´s brain cells. The single cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE) was used to detect DNA single strand breaks of DEHP on gold Crucian carp´s brain cells. Tail DNA% and tail moment of brain cells were both significantly increased in all the DEHP treatment groups (25, 50, 100, 200 mgldrL- 1) compared with the control. Meanwhile, the DNA damage increased gradually with the increase of DEHP concentrations. There was an obvious dose-effect relationship between DEHP concentrations and DNA damage (tail DNA% and tail moment). DEHP could induce DNA damage in brain cells of gold crucian carp.
