Abstract :
The noise portion of the read signal of a helical scan tape recorder has been separated into multiplicative noise and additive noise. Additive noise is further split into medium correlated and medium uncorrelated parts which are particle noise, rubbing noise, head noise and amplifier noise. The separation procedure is described and results are presented. A simulation model for the realistically distorted read signal is set up on the basis of the knowledge about the noise sources
