Abstract :
To increase the accessibility of the WWW, we propose a telephone-accessed Web browsing system referred to as Telephone-Web. In this work, the development of Telephone-Web is presented. Telephone-Web can delegate telephone users´ requests to access the WWW through retrieving and then translating the proposed Hyper Phone Markup Language (HPML)-specified Web pages into a synthetic human speech. Via ringing the Telephone-Web, telephone users can access the HPML-specified Web services, including dialogue-based transaction services exploiting any phone calls. Besides that, applying regular browsers, including Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer, computer users can still access the same HPML-specified Web pages stored in cyberspace. By installing and maintaining a Telephone-Web system, an Internet service provider (ISP) can service two categories of WWW users employing telephones and computers
