Abstract
A web-based free body diagram assistant was developed to assist students with the construction of free body diagrams in biomechanics. This is an interactive tool that allows students to place vectors and couples on a 2-D drawing of an isolated body. They can easily change the point of application and orientation of all couples and vectors. After they submit their completed diagram they are provided with appropriate feedback. Student response to this tool as an effective learning device has generally been quite positive. In addition, student comments have stimulated improvements in the information provided to students who submit incorrect diagrams.
