Abstract
A recently devised model of a digital recording system is used to investigate the recording properties of a wide range of media of different magnetic properties and of different structures. The method of the modelling is described briefly and a range of results are given to indicate the potential of particulate, thin film and multilayered media. Conclusions are drawn to indicate ways forward in the design and development of new media
