Abstract :
Recently, wired and wireless communication functions have been installed on Smart Grids and Smart Meters. In consideration of required specifications, performance and cost, however, wired communication functions are normally chosen from among available wired systems while the wireless communication functions from among available wireless systems. MegaChips Corporation is now developing BlueChip as a dual communication system LSI that combines wireless and wired communication media into a mutual complementary network [1],[2]. BlueChip for wireless communication uses 920 MHz frequency radio band specified by IEEE 802.15.4g/e, while a newly developed electric power line communication that operates on the OFDM modulation system on a low frequency band of 450 KHz is installed for wired communication. This paper discusses the aim, specifications, performance and other details related to LSI development.
