Abstract
Narrow bandwidth is a main drawback that limits the the wide usage of a patch antenna. In this paper, ultrawide bandwidth is achieved by a rectangular patch antenna over a specifically designed artificial magnetic conductor (AMC). Replacing the traditional ground plane with the proposed AMC succeeds in the significant enhancement of the bandwidth ranging from 0.9 MHz to nearly 24 GHz. Besides the great improvement in the bandwidth, the other performances of the antenna such as the gain and efficiency are improved as well. Details of the proposed antenna design are offered in this letter and experimental results are also presented here.
