Abstract :
To explore the feasibility of using Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer in the detection of foodborne pathogens Salmonella spp. The invA gene of Salmonella spp. was amplified by PCR technique using specific primers. Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer and conventional agarose gel electrophoresis were employed respectively to detection the PCR products. The accuracy, reproducibility and sensitivity of those two detection techniques were compared. Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer showed more accurate in determining the length of the gene fragments than agarose gel electrophoresis, the accuracy of the Bioanalyzer reached above 95% while the agarose gel electrophoresis was only 85%. Bioanalyzer was also more sensitive than agarose gel electrophoresis. Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer combined with PCR is specific, accurate and sensitive for Salmonella detection in the clinical diagnosis.
