Abstract :
Spectro-temporal mapping is used to analyze the electrocardiogram in the frequency domain while retaining time domain orientation. To improve the spectral resolution, Prony spectral line estimation was implemented on a 80386 microcomputer. Test signals reveal that an 8 millisecond signal has a spectral resolution of 5 Hertz as compared to the standard fast Fourier transformation (FFT) which has a resolution of 125 Hertz or greater, depending on the windowing function used. The algorithm was tested on signal-averaged electrocardiogram (SAECG) data and the short data segments allowed for detailed analysis of all areas of the signal
