Abstract
A regional voltage control strategy is presented in this paper to reset the reference voltage values of AVRs of synchronous generators to enhance the voltage profile on a system-wide basis. The power system is divided into distinct voltage zones of closely coupled buses based on the concept of electrical distance. A pilot bus is identified in each zone which represents the most sensitive bus in that zone. A simplified distributed control law is developed to control the voltage at the pilot buses. The proposed voltage control strategy is implemented on the IEEE 118 bus system and results are presented.
