  • Abstract
    A low-profile cavity-backed slot antenna is proposed using a uniplanar compact photonic band-gap (UC-PBG) structure, which is a 2D periodic metallic pattern loaded on a thin dielectric slab backed with a ground plane. The UC-PBG substrate behaves like an open boundary at the resonant frequency and this property is exploited to reduce the cavity size while keeping good antenna performance.
