Abstract :
The correlation between hydrophobicity recovery characteristics of a RTV silicone rubber housing, influencing the contamination performance of the polymer insulator in which the housing is adopted, and the LMW behaviour is investigated. The LMW migration properties are varied by several types of stresses simulating severe outdoor contamination HV conditions. It is shown, from the investigation results, that the increase and decrease of the amount of LMW able to migrate from the bulk to the outside are consistent with the improvement and aggravation of the hydrophobicity recovery characteristics, respectively
